What is hard sf?Hard sf is science fiction that relies heavily on accurate science and technology, as opposed to soft sf which is closer to fantasy that happens to be set in the future. Darwin's Radio and The Martian Race are examples of this genre.What is cyberpunk?Cyberpunk is a style of science fiction that generally involves computers and often virtual reality, frequently in a near-future setting. Urban decay and over-industrialisation are common themes. William Gibson's Neuromancer is generally considered to be the book that spawned this genre. Other notable cyberpunk writers include Tad Williams and Bruce Sterling.What is steampunk?Taking its cue from cyberpunk, steampunk is science fiction that involves the past. This can come in the form of alternate history, as well as historical fiction which involves technologies that had not yet been invented. Go to the Characters and Styles page, and click on the links to choose a design. Your preferences will be stored using a cookie.You can also access different page styles if you use Mozilla browsers such as Firefox or Netscape, by going to View > Page Style on your toolbar. Unfortunately this method has the disadvantage that your preferences will not be remembered from one page to another. Will you review my book?There are always a lot of books in the review queue. Your book must fit within one of the following genres: science fiction, fantasy, alternate history or steampunk, and supernatural horror. It must be traditionally published, not self-published. I don't review ebooks unless they're also available in paperback or hardback.If your book fits the bill then please get in touch for more information. Do you accept press releases?Yes. If your release concerns books or films in the science fiction, fantasy or speculative fiction genres then feel free to send them in via the form above.
