Anne McCaffreyAnne McCaffrey was noted for her Pern series of science fantasy books, in which riders formed telepathic bonds with dragons in order to defeat an alien threat. Set on a colony planet that had reverted to an older form of civilisation, the stories had the feel of medieval fantasy with dragons and smaller communities, whilst being based on a science fiction premise.
Anne McCaffrey was an Irish American writer born in America who later moved to Ireland. She was a prolific author, and her books have received a number of literary awards.
